My manual talks about the rpms left and right but I just don't get how I am to obtain this from my motor. Is there a special tool I need to buy??? Please help a frustrated bloke.

you either need a tachometer, of a timing light with a tachometer reading. what are you wanting to do? i use the timing light, that way i can use it on all my motors.

Re: How Do I Know Rpms??

I had a previous thread that you said I need to do a link and sync because I adjusted my throttle rod when putting on a new throttle cable in order to get the thing to seat back on the idle screw after shifting back to neutral.

I want this thing ready for Monday's holiday !?! :(

I read somewheres that the throttle lever & cam yoke need to be 4 31/32 inches apart. Can I just readjust back to this and call it a day ?

Look what this guy wrote. I have an 86 50hp johnson, does this apply?

you might and it works. i don't know what has been done in the past. people screw with stuff they have no business, the reason for doing the complete link n sinc. you do it 1/2 way expect it to run 1/2 way.
