How do I locate serial or model number 0n 1989 85 hp

On my 1989 force, 85 hp I Just need model number (which will look something like 856X5L and is normally on a sticker on the port side of the leg just below the cowl...unfortunately this tag is worn away. Is there another place to find the number?

There is sometimes also a small white tag stuck to the starter motor mount

If it's the original motor on the boat then the Manufacturer keeps that info as they assign certain motors to certain boats.If they give it to you is a different story.J

Thanks to all for their help it appears I didn't need a serial number as a parts man informed me...I only needed this group and especially
thanks to the admiral for this... If you just need the pin, a 1/8 diameter stainless cotter pin works very well. 1/8 stainless welding rod--any stainless 1/8 that you can push through and bend so it won't fall out. If you need the cylinder too, try franzmarine@aol.com (I did and got the parts I needed)--the part was never changed until about 1994 so any 85, 90, 120, 125 up till then will use the same part.[/QUOTE]
