1993 Johnson 70 hp. I want to test compression and spark and want to do it at the engine rather than the control box. I've seen them used on YouTube and would like to make one myself. So my questions are how do I go about doing that, what kind of switch do I use and how do I hook it up. Thanks for any and all help.

All you really need is a single clip lead to jumper the starter. Connect one end to the battery cable at the starter solenoid, and the other end to the starter solenoid secondary winding post with the yellow/red wire on it. The motor will crank until you disconnect the wire.

If you want a switch, it needs to be in the center of the clip lead, connected as I described.

by the way, the thread is about remote start switch.

ignition switch would imply you want it to run, not just crank.
