How do I make labels for dashboard switches?

Hi,
I have a dashboard with several flip switches...all of which are not labeled. Temporarily, I am using "masking tape" to identify various lights, radio, live well, etc.

These switches are mounted on a fiberglass dashboard.

Do any of you have any ideas on how to label these flip switches?

I have purchased some thin metal washers, and some metal stamps (alphabet), with the intention of hand stamping the washers with names (Stern light, radio, etc), then mounting the washer under the nut holding on the flip switch. But...this may be difficult to get done neatly.

Anyone have better ideas?

well to be honest I like the washer idea, but since you asked for a way to do it my boat came with little plaques like would go on trophies If i can find them as they are off while I re-glass the console I will post a pic

Thanks for the idea yonu...small "plaques" which I would glue to the dashboard might be easier to work with than the thin steel washers. Plus, I can probably find some soft aluminum to make these with...which will not rust.

Aluminum may get surface corrosion and chalkiness. Might want to look into small engraved plastic labels.

You obviously have a computer. Play with the graphics and print style application. Print what you want in the size and color you want and then laminate them. Glue to the dash. Save the program if you need to replace them in the future.

OR: Buy a Dymo label maker at Staples.

Personally, I prefer the computer. I have made several professional looking capacity plates for my boats.

Thanks Frank...yes...I do have a computer and am pretty good with graphics. Your idea sounds promising, and will experiment with it. I wanted a more professional look than Dymo labels...so will look at laminating some computer labels, then gluing them onto the dash. Thanks again.

There are 2 different ways I would look at.
1) West Marine sells a package of 30 premade labels for about $5 or so. There are labels for 'lights', 'radio', etc etc. They look like they are coated paper stickers...black with white lettering.
Or...

2) The way I went is on Ebay there are many people that will engrave the plaque style labels very cheaply.
I sent them the measurements I wanted (2" x 9" long) and the six labels I wanted engraved in it.
(I have one 'plaque' with six switches above it)
Cost about $15 shipped.

Most marine stores sell little plaques that are pre-inscribed with the most common uses, they mount via 2 small screws. If you have the push-pull type switched I'd go with a stainless washer that fits the switch and either stamp it or use an engraver.
