How do I make the flywheel come off?

I want to reach the stator on my Johnson 70 hp VRO from 1986, and the flywheel nut came off without any major hassel. However, flywheel itself is stuck. I've used a big puller with three armsbut eventually the puller cracked. I don't think the original flywheel puller is going to do the job any better, so do you have any suggestions on how to make the flywheel come off?

It's a good thing you broke the puller. If you used a jaw type of puller you risk breaking the flywheel. NEVER pry or pull from the edges of a flywheel. Use the three holes, grade 8 bolts, and the proper puller.

Do you have any suggestions on where to find a proper puller like the original Johnson puller that's shown in the manual?

harmonic balancer puller works well. but have to use #8 harden bolts i think they are 5/16 x 20. standard grade bolts will strip out in the flywheel, i read your other post and was going to mention a manual. good you have one.

i had the same problem all i did was get the puller snug, tap the flyweel lightly with a hammer, tighen up the puller a little more and tap again.the tapping pritty much shocks the flyweel when theres enough presure on it to free it up

Harmonic balance removers are readily available from stores like NAPA, AutoZone, Advanced Auto Parts, etc... I purchased the grade 8 bolts from a True Value Hardware store... (they have everything and are generally very helpful)

The tapping of the drive shaft is and old trick (actually described in the old evinrude service manuals) ball peen or similar, straight down and not too hard! It really does work.
