How do I mount outriggers?

Do they make an outrigger that will mount to a gunwale? Do I need to get a tower if I want to use an outrigger? I'd love to get a tower put on my boat so I could mount some rocket launchers, but I can get by with side mounted rod holders if I don't need a tower.

Major Woods right on with the Lee's but what kind of boat are we talking about? If you have a 20' or so the gunnel mount work great but bear in mind they are unsupported and have a tendancy to whip your baits around in rough conditions. If your up in the 25' plus category with a center console then I would consider a sun shade t-top for support extra rod holders above the spray an very good hang on to points while running offshore in a chop. I personally never liked a tower with helm on a narrow beam small craft under say 32' minimum but I don't care to fish in 4 to 6 ft seas anymore, got kicked way too many times in the past when we should have stayed tied to the dock.

Hope that helps a little

Good boating ya'll

I have Lee gunwale riggers on my 19' boat. If it is rough leave the baits in the water until you get them out of the clip or they will spin around the tip of the riggers and make quite a mess.

At this stage I would suggest selling the cabin cruiser and getting something like a 28-32 ft topaz or similar sportsfisherman with a small cabin. At least now all your posts are togeather

Re: How do I mount outriggers?

I know it's not the best fishing setup, but I love my cabin cruiser. It handles rough water very well, is fast and fuel efficient for it's size, and it very comfortable down below. The size make it a very comfortable 5 person fishing boat. I would love to get a sport fisher with a fly bridge in the future. In fact, I plan to get a twin inboard diesel sport fisher / convertible with a wider beam in the next few years. I need to build up my funds first, I only started my business two years ago. :D

Lee's are nice for a set up like yours...if its possable to..bolt in instead of screws, theres no major tension on the holders after clip releases, but over time screws can work loose..or instead or outriggers can you use downriggers?
