Thanks Everyone - I'm going to end this thread about preventing corrosion and start a new one on just sealers.

Sealers and Gasket compounds - What to use where

Evinrude/OMC gasket sealer or Merc Perfect seal on the pivot to drive gasket (both sides, and drive & pivot sealing surfaces) and on drain plug o rings and threads. Permatex Aviation is a good alternative. Evinrude triple guard to pack the housing where the shifter bell crank lives.
