How do I remove Hot Foot and

put the throttle back on the engine shift control ? I got this used bass boat and it has a hot foot throttle . I would prefer to put it back to the stock location . Is it just a matter of removing the cable from the hotfoot and attaching it back to the shift lever ? If so , can somebody run me thru the steps to take ? Would the cable need to be shortened ? I've never worked on an engine control before so give me the " For Dummies " version . Thanks in advance guys , Chuck

basically you unscrew the hot foot from the floor and disconnect the cable. Next you get at the control box,and remove the throttle cable.Discard the cable,and instal a new one (usually 3 feet shorter,but whatever you need).

Go easy with the "dummies version" I went a tad over 70mph in a 150 HP Ranger about 15 years ago ( I don't boat,just fix).Throttle control is serious.

So I remove the cable from the hotfoot and from the engine on the other end , then get a cable the proper length from the engine to the shift lever control ? How does the cable attach ? I guess I have to remove the control to access the under side where the cable hooks to it ? I wasn't making light of throttle control . I am completely new to boating and was just poking fun at my lack of knowledge . Thanks a bunch , Chuck

It's very common to have the Hot Foot cable and the throttle cable in the box in the boat at the same time. Just take the hood off and hook up which one you want to use that day. You may find you'll like the Hot Foot better than you think.

I'll pop the hood and take a look . You may be right about liking the hotfoot better . I was kind of looking at it from a protection aspect . I know , sooner or later when I'm not home , my wife will give one of the kids or someone else , permission to use my boat . I'm afraid of them stabbing the pedal while not in gear and over reving the motor to the point of damage . I try to think things thru and sometimes my little brain gets carried away . Am I concerned over nothing ? Or could this cause a problem ? Thanks , Chuck

You're thinking correctly. Yes, it's very possible to have your foot in it (so to speak) and shove it in gear. Several things can happen, none of them good. That's why most folks that have boats with a Hot Foot don't let anyone else drive them. If someone else is going to drive it, teach them the right way.

That's why in a car or turck you have to have one foot on the brake to take it out of park. Somebody has to protect us from us.

Thanks for the reassurance that I'm on the right page here . I took the hood off and there are two cables . One 10 foot long and one 13 foot long . At least , that's what the print on them says . If I'm reading it right , one cable is for the gear shift and one is for the throttle ? If that's right , I assume I need a 10 foot cable to put the throttle back on the hand control ? Are the cables fairly generic ? Or are there different types that fit particular controls ? Thanks again for all the help . Chuck
