How do I replace flywheel key?

Okay, let me start out by admitting that I'm an idiot. I didn't get my flywheel properly torqued back down, despite knowing better! Anyways, my flywheel key on the crank is sheered clean off. First question is how do I get the rest of it out? It appears to be press-fitted in. Second question is, after I get the remnants of the old one out, can I install a new one myself or do I need to go to a dealer so they can use a special tool of some kind? Lastly, if this is something I can do, does anybody know the part # of the key I need? It's an '89 Evinrude 150XP (E150STLCEM). Thanks much!

Hmmmm, I'm not seeing anything in that thread about a flywheel key. Maybe you posted the wrong link? I'm going to do a search now and see if I can find a different one. . .

Yeah, that's the one I found in the search - thanks! I'll give your method(s) a try. Do you know if this is key is an item a local dealer would stock, or something I will need to order? Since today is Sunday, they are all closed and I was hoping I could get a part# and order it today online to get it sooner. Thanks!

Hey, I got the old one out pretty easily. I just put a punch right at the top and lightly tapped and noticed that it moved. A few more light taps and it popped right out, nice and clean. Guess I just need to find a new one and I should be good to go - oh yeah, and use a TORQUE WRENCH when installing the flywheel this time! Hopefully it will install as easily as the old one came out. Thanks!!

Good deal. Yeah, you should be able to get the part at the local dealer. I don't know the part number, though, for that engine.
