How do I rewire old VP 280 Four pin relay box to new 2 pigtail outdrive motor?

I have a 1976 Bayliner Skagit 2250 with a Volvo Penta 280 outdrive. I have an old type outdrive motor with 4 built in male prongs which mates with a 4 pin female connector coming from the relay case.

As mentioned before in a previous post, I have replaced the fuse, limit switch and had the outdrive motor rebuilt. For some reason, it doesn't have the torque to lift the outdrive unless I lift the motor and then the piston, or whatever they call it comes down and will hold up the motor but will not raise it by itself. I'd like to replace it with the current Volvo Penta 280 two pigtail outdrive motor.

SQBTR mentioned that I could use the old 4 pin relay wires with the new 2 pigtail motor with a rewire from the relay box.

Can anyone help me with how to wire the new 2 pigtail motor to an old 4pin connector coming from the relay box. I hope I've described this enough

Don, thanks for the download. However, I can't see anything about wiring the old 4 pin harness coming from a 1976 relay and old OD motor with 4 built in prongs which doesn't have enough torque to lift the drive.... to the existing 4 wire harness from the relay and then to the most recent 2 prong newer type motor with more torque than the old motor.

In other words, How do I connect 4 wires to 2 wires. (Round peg in square hole) Which wire or wires do I use to connect the 4 wires from the relay to the 2 wires on the most recent type O/D motor? I know others have done it. I just don't know how. Helpppppp

Do I cut the 4 prong connector off the 4 wire harness and experiment using only 2 wires then try to do 2 sets of wires wrapped together? Will I blow the motor or relay if I do this? I'm really frustrated. I can't find anything that explains how to do this.

I've never tried to change a 4 wire to a 2 wire, so how you do it, and what you change, I can't tell you.
That's why I gave you the wiring diagrams. There is a difference in how it's wired, you just have to figure out what changes. Trace each wire on both systems to find the differences.

With the wiring diagram, just rewire the relays to the two wire schematic. Pay special attention to the grounds and wich side of the limit switch they are wired to. You will end up with just two wires going to the motor.
