I have a problem with the tilt on my boat. When I have the motor in the up position and put it in gear to go, the motor gets pushed down. I don't see any fluid leaks but can here the ram leaking from the top seal if I push down on the motor manually. I see a pin at the top of the ram that holds it to the engine bracket but it won't budge. I tried twisting it and pounding it with a punch. I took off the pressure of the pump and have the motor locked in the up position. Can someone walk me thru the steps of removing the hydro ram? I was told I can replace the top seal on it.

njextreme, I'm having the same problem and I believe its the internal seals that are allowing back-pressure to feed past. to remove the pump(if its a type II like I have) There is a set screw on the top pivot on the left side facing the motor. Trim the motor up, set the lock and bump the trim down to release pressure. The lower cradle should unbolt from the motor brackets and you should be able to pull the whole unit out. I hope that helps.

Thank you. Ill look for the set screw. When you say internal seals, do you mean in the ram or in the pump?

Ok, now I have the cap off and plunger out. Does the bottom unscrew off so I can slide off the components off to replace the rubber o rings? Does it have c clips to remove? I apologise for not having a service manual and a newb on this subject.

Wingedwheel, its a pin not a set screw. then the main bigger pin came out.

Does anyone know how to remove the release valve on this set up? It shows a e-clip on the parts diagram.

I rebuilt all three rams and a bunch of other o-rings. I put atf in it and ran it up a down a few times. I let some air out thru the fill cap a few times. I still can push down the main tilt ram? It seems a little better now and still have no external leaks. I did get the new steering in. I will update with a water test and see if the tilt/trim is working any better.
