when the cam is rubbing points you adjust with screw to get point gap you need tighten screw down rotate till points hit cam again check gap thats about all there is to it good luck

Well not really all,
Then you have to put it back together and check the dwell with a dwell meter to get it adjusted into spec.
A feeler gauge is just to get you in the ball park to get the engine started to use the dwell meter to get it right.
You can use the starter to crank the engine and check the dwell without it running, it better than a feeler gauge, but its not as good as having it running.

What engine ae you inquiring about?

Don't know how to use a dwell meter with an older 2 cyl, 2 cycle outboard.
