A single gasket set for my '88 Evinrude 40 fits "40,45,48,50,55,60HP, 1979 UP." This seems to indicate that the powerhead is the same for all.

Is there an easy way to milk a few more horses out of my 40? Maybe carbs from a 50?

If powerhead is the same, how do they differ?

What say the pros?

The differences are many.

1. Carburetion.

2. Port timing.

3. Peak RPM.

There may be others such as: pistons, compression ratios, etc.
