Beautiful old boats. May I suggest you tilt those outboards so they don't get pounded into the bottom, perhaps from a rogue powerturn wave?

Re: how do we feel about beaching boats

i dont think there is a yes or no answer,
all depends on your local conditions and customs
here at the western lake i frequent, beaching is by far the most common with hardly anyone anchoring.
i have 3 anchors but only use one in the water(sometimes we anchor bow out) use the other 2 as sand pins on stern to the shore when beached bow in or out.
i think this works here because the lake levels are fairly steady and the lake bottoms drop off pretty quick. allso you can find solid rock or sand to pull the bow on and almost all run keelsheilds.
ours is a lake powell boat and has been beached on allmost every trip to the lake.the keel is still in good shape.
personaly i like running up on solid sand stone because then all that touchs the lake bed is the keel sheild. i have done this many times with only 12 to 16 inches of keel sheild protected keel even touching. the only problem i have ever had is when the wind shifts and waves start coming on swim platform.
this very seldom happens and its easy for me to move to another beach with bow to the wind. this works better for me because if stay and anchor bow out, the bow cuts the waves, but easier to move and have no waves.

Did you say "Lake Powell" I LOVE lake powell. Ill have to try the keelshield on my little Starcraft, but i don't think I want to try that with the CC 230 scorpion, its too big to push off the beach myself if the waves were to push it up too far or the water level dropped while hiking or napping. I have a bit to learn about anchoring , that is why I am on the forum today. I want be sure I am ready to steady my new 23 footer on my Powel vacation this year.

Re: how do we feel about beaching boats

Anyone been to Raystown Lake since they did the "Shoreline protection" at the campgrounds? We went last year and beached the boat and tied off to a tree. We were next to about twenty boats lined up, beached on the shoreline. It was great, as we had the camper right there in the seven points campground. I was wondering what they did to the shoreline? Usually "shoreline protection" means they put big boulders in. Anyone happen to see what they did, cause I sure will miss beaching it there if they put rocks in.

upstate ny, here on lake champlain......i was told it was illegal to beach unless you owned the waterfront....according to DEC i can be fined pretty heavy if i beach the boat on state lands too..they said it damages the lake bottom :/

Huh! I camped at Burton Island last month and they said I could beach my boat if I wanted to, but they didn't recommend it. Never mentioned it being illegal. The marina tie-up was nice and protected and the western shoreline shallow in close, so I wouldn't beach there anyway.

But that is VT not NY.

Are you still looking to go fishing one of these days?

I see it every weekend with all kinds of boats...shouldn't be a problem...just ease it onto the sand and you should be fine

I'll beach only in sand. I store a strip of old carpet 1'x6' rolled up just in case I have to beach where there is small river rocks. Let it dry when we get home or toss it and replace. All other times it's anchored with bow facing away from land.
Been doing it that way for years.
