How do you drop the lower unit on a 40 Yamaha

Have any of you dropped the lower unit on a 40. I cannot figure out how to get a wrench on the shift rod connector. Please see my earlier post related to model number and this issue. HELP!! http://forums.iboats.com/bbBoard.cgi?a=viewthread;fid=30;gtid=1253531

put it in reverse or foward and see if u can get a wrench in there

I did that. I can get a wrench on the upper part of the nut but not on the lower; unless of course I only need to get one wrench on it.

yep, u need to losen the lower smaller nut first, then u can get the upper nut
it might be a 10mm nut, not to sure
