How do you identify cylinder #1?

Hi All,

I'm trying to synchronize timing on my 1987 Johnson 140 V4. The manual says to connect a timing light to the No. 1 cylinder. I think that would be the port side, top spark plug, correct?

it is the highest cyl. the banks are offset a bit, the highest one is #1

It's on the stbd side, top cyl.
