i want to take out all of the windows in my boat, paint them white with a metal spray paint (probably rustoleum?), tint the glass, and reapply new sealant or whatever it is. I have a link with several photos of the windshield and galley windows (i want to do the same to both except the galley windows already have tint.) Now the galley windows would be fine except the rubber seal is so sun damaged that i can open them anymore and need to replace them.

-how would i go about removing the windows?
-Where can i get new (i think they are called shims?)
-is rustoleum metal paint ok for this type of application?

Going from plain aluminum...... you need to use the proper primer BEFORE you go with rustoleum....

Zinc Chromate or etching primer only.

Removing the topside windows ....... they are held with special bolts from the bottom.....

Side windows I have no idea

Check with a local glass shop for the gaskets

so after checking for thirty or so minutes, i pulled off the outside rubber gasket thing and the screws to remove the windows were there. no i know how to to remove the windows, but i noticed under the gasket there was some kind of caulking that waterproofed that atual glass. this is most likely silicon right?

and is there any kind of surface prep for the primer? like cleaning with acetone or ruffing the metal or anything?
