Hey guys I just picked up a project boat, never dealt with an I/O motor before and this is really my first boat so Im new to boating... but I bought a boat with a free spinning prop. From researching I've found it can be anything from the prop hub to a broken drive shaft, and I need to start tearing the thing apart to figure it all out. Ive seen theres a prop removal tool, so Im going to pick one of those up, but Im not really sure what to do once I get it. The motor is a mercruiser sterndrive with the alpha one outdrive...

Also wondering if the nut on there is normal threaded or reverse thread, any pointers would be great. Thanks.

Explain what you mean by free spinning. In neutral the prop will spin freely. If you put it in gear it obviously shouldn't and something is broken.

I should have said in gear, the prop shouldn't spin. If it does something is broken.
