I just had to replace the trim tilt motor on my 1985 90 hp outboard, however I have not completed the project. I found the motor at a rebuild shop nearby and just unbolted the old one and bolted on the new one, adding some sealant to the connection. That's all I have done so far, but I plan to try and finish it this week. I'll let you know how it goes.

easiest way is with the unit removed. remove the wireing from the enine clip and withdraw it from the cowl. remove the tilt rod retaining pin. unbolt the six bolts,3 on each side. use the manual release screw to retract the rod if the trim is inoperable. then tilt the TnT unit out. make sure the outboard is adequatly supported in the up position.
the kicker is most saltwater motors will require 15-20 min of oxygen/acetlyne.
the six bolts are very hard and to drill them usually requires a carbide bit.
