Trying to remove Backrest Upolstry from 88 Bayliner Capri - Two Panels in Back, on each side of Motor. I'm thinking there must be a "Z" bracket of some kind fastened to the Fiberglass and the panel hooked over???Tryed prying UP, PUSHING down - no luck. Would appreciate it if some one could help - THANKS

John

You most likely have a threaded stud/studs going through a fiberglass panel secured by a nut/nuts.
I think you can reach up in there and remove the nuts with probably a 7/16" wrench. ;)

Mike, Up behind the Fiberglass are the tips (points)of two sheet metal screws. The screws are somehow coming from the upolstered side.
Any more thoughts on how these backrests are fastened? Thanks

John

Re: How Does It Come Apart?

I finally determined, the Backrest must have been upolstered AFTER it was screwed onto the back Fiberglass(The top edge was stapled prior to fastening to the Fiberglass). In order to remove the **** thing, you need to pry it off, pulling the head of the screw thru the plywood. To reinstall after re-upolstering, I will probably use some sort of snap-in fastener.

John
