Re: how does it cost?

I don't call it "losing" but, last 2 day out trip with the Stamas was $563.20 in fuel. 100 gal main tank and two 40 gal side tanks. I don't leave any fuel in the tanks after I get it home, always leave with fresh gas in the tanks.

After looking at the responses I'll add that my 2 day trips are 2 days spent offshore before returning. I'll camp out anywhere:D:D

I kept telling my wife "you can't put a price on fun." but lately I'm having to remind myself that.

Re: how does it cost?

My kids are older now and gone their ways. So water sports isn't a priority for me anymore.

I keep my boat in the water (too big to tow comfortably) at the dock. Wife and I will idle around the lake several times. If I go out to fish, I idle to where I'm going. This way I can go thru the whole season on about 40 gallons.

Of course the most fun is at the dock. One can't get a DUI if your not operating your boat if you been drinking. If I want to go out for a fast ride, I will pitch in some money for gas and go with someone with a faster boat. Going fast in my boat would be like racing a RV, just not designed for water sports,,,,,,,just cruising. My lake is too small and really no where to cruise to.

A dock slip is half the cost of a seasonal camp site, that is why I chose to get a cabin cruiser. Just being on the water, away from home, and work is worth every bit of money I can put into it.

I surpose if gas was like it was 4 years ago, I would either get a smaller boat to play with, or take my boat to lake Erie. I don't see that happening for a long long while.

The 3.0 I/O is less than 20 gallons a day the J24 sailboat should use at least 3 gallons this season :D if i really use the motor a LOT

Re: how does it cost?

I went out last week end fishing and it took three gallons and I went around twenty miles. It was a lot cheaper than taking my wife out to eat and it was what she wanted to do.

The weekend before we went thirty two miles on no gas. There were two sailboats out there that day also.:D

I don't know what a round of golf costs on average, what a day at the racetrack costs or several hours at the stick of a plane. What ever a person's pleasure is they seem to afford it.

If the price of fuel is getting you down, then slow down and enjoy the time on the water more. I talked to a young man that was launching as we were coming in from fishing. He uses over thirty gallons an hour at his normal cruising speed, but decided that day he was just going to loaf along as compared to not being on the lake. I noticed he was still happy at being there.

1 liter per kilometer or 2.5 miles per gallon, you do the math depending on the price of gas in your area. 25', 5500lb boat, single 350 CU Volvo Penta duoprop.

We normally do an evening cruise of 25 kms or so and that's about $25 in fuel, two steaks, two baked potatoes, two beers, again you do the math ;-)

On our summer holidays we normally cover 600 kms (360 mi) or so on about $600 in fuel over 12-14 days, add in the cost of canal fees, camping fees, dockage, ice etc. we're about $2K for the two weeks. Ya can't rent a cottage up here for that and the scenery keeps changing every day.

At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter to us because it's all been worth the time, effort and money to be on the boat.

Re: how does it cost?

Usual day trip is around 30 miles. I can't rely on the fuel gauge, but it would show half a tank and I don't know how much she holds. So I just refill after the day out. About 15 gals. +/-.
With the prices of gas about to hit $4 on the street, I'll have to charge anyone who wants to go out fishing, knowing it is illegal to charge. These are the times and I'm not nowhere near being wealthy.

Re: how does it cost?

Just got back from our boat. Went down to grill supper. Didn't cost nothing except for the pound of hamburger :D. Used the company van to go to and from. Maybe I used 1/4 lb of propane. I just love having my boat docked. Cabin was nice and cool with the AC on.

IF you have to ask how much, you can't afford it.

Sure am glad I have a 16' boat now instead of the 27'.

Re: how does it cost?

My 17 footer costs about $100 to fill and lasts most of the summer. I don't race around much but just cruse and fish. Some times we just drift with the tide and enjoy each others company. Some times when i go out by myself i like to pretend like i was the old man and the sea. Cost for me does not matter as long as my family and I are having fun.:) On the other hand if it cost me a $100 every time i took it out i would probably have another opinion.

When we were in Florida a few weeks ago we rented a 21' CC with a 200hp yamaha. We did alot of idling and very little cruising, plus we were anchored for a while near Sanabel Island and also on Ft Myers Beach near our hotel. We were out for about 8 hours, and ended up about $90 in gas!

Ayuh,.......

I'm Boating,........ Who the 'ell Cares what it Co$t$..........;)

Exactly. Well, I do care, but it's not going to stop me. Sides, even if gas was $10/gal., that's still nothing compared to what I'm putting into restoring the boat.

Anywhere from 5-15$ for an average day of fishing.
