how does my aerator work?

just bought a new (to me) boat and it has an aerator. never owning a boat with a livewell before im not sure how it works. i hooked up a battery and flicked the swith labeled "aerator" nothing happened. filled it with water and the same thing.i know the battery works also

ill check in the daylight tomorrow.
but how does it pump if its all the way way at the top past the overflow?

Look for a thru-hull intake for the aerator pump. Won't work too well with the boat on the trailer! It draws from the lake/river/ocean/bathtub until it gets high enough to flow out of the outlet. At least that's how it was in the bass boat I used to have.

Yes, the water intake is probably located somewhere beside the drain plug of the hull. When the boat is in the water, it pump water that exit through the slotted tube at the right. The hole at the left is the overflow. There should also be a drain at the bottom of the livewell.

Anyway, even on the trailer, you should at least hear the pump running when you flip the switch.
