would be nice to train the dog or cat to identify upcoming trouble with your vehicle, before you can hear it yuourself.

I often talk to my wife as I'm coming home (hands-free). My one dog (Sandy) runs to the window when I make my second-last turn to home. About 2 blocks away. Driving a 6.6L Duramax diesel.

I've never seen her notice the car until it's in the driveway.

If another diesel drives by she looks at the window funny.

My other dog (Molly) doesn't do anything unless Sandy looks out the window first. But then Molly has trouble with doors and stuff that have never given Sandy a moments trouble.

As far as the internal clock thing, yeah. it takes them a couple of weeks for the time change to become routine. So for a while they want breakfast at 5 in the morning.

When I want to find mine I just tap the electric can opener.

Was babysitting my SIL's cat a few years back. They had gone for a week and the cat was out of sorts and hiding in cupboards. Spent the first couple of days going and finding it to feed it until I learned the can opener trick.

Cats can be trained, you just don't let them know you are training them.
Example: I trained both our cats to come to me when I clap my hands twice. Started training them by clapping twice before they got cat treats. Now they respond every time I clap. They unfortunately trained me to clean their litter box though.

Someone did a study with video showing how a dog acts different when it's
master leaves work for home many miles away. Animal Planet (?)

Our cats are country cats who disappear for hours during the day but are
always home when we pull into the driveway.

When GF is home on her day off she says the dogs start acting different
10 min. before I'm home. If I drive a strange vehicle home from work they
bark and act like it's a stranger pulling in. But if I'm in the "regular" vehicle
they know exactly who it is.

AMAZING. In many ways they are so much smarter then us. If reincarnation is
real I want to come back as a dog.

too funny! Our cat thinks hes a dog I guess too, when we play frisbee, he tries to swat it out of the air!!! Coolest cat ive had!

Our two cats follow us when we take hikes in the woods with the dogs.
