How does my freshwater sink work?

I recently bought a used 2007 Caravelle 237 bowrider and it has a small freshwater sink behind the passenger seat. How does this thing work?

Obviously, I know how to put water in the tank. But then, there's a rocker switch that turns on/off a pump. Do I turn on the pump and immediately turn on the faucet, or do I wait and let it build pressure first? If I let it build too much pressure, when I turn on the faucet it really shoots out air and air/water mix.

Also, do you leave the pump switch on all the time, or do you have to turn it on and off everytime you plan to use it?

Thanks for your help!

With regards to the fresh water system in our boat, after filling the tank with fresh water and turning the pump on, crack the faucet alittle to vent the air out of the system, when its just a trickle of water and the air isnt hissing out anymore, close the faucet and you should be good to go. As for leaving the pump on most pumps build up preasure in the tank and will kick on and off when required as long as there is sufficient water in it (more than 1/4 full)
You may also want to check and or replace the o-ring on the filler cap as well as clean filler tube, you need a good seal to build up preasure.
hope that helps.
