Yep thats pretty much what I want to know. here is a bit of descrip. on the mechanism there is the main hydraulic cylinder which Im thinking makes the motor go up and down. then there are two stops that the motor rests against when its down they also look to be hydraulic should they go up and down as the motor goes up and down because I cant get them to move. any thoughts?

Re: How does my power tilt & trim thing work?

Here is how The TNT works on mine.
I have had it apart to get it working 2ce in 7 years replacing the electric motor 1ce.

1 there is an electric motor that looks similar to a starter motor that drives the hydralic pump.
The long centre shaft/piston is for tilt. It goes up & down for trailering, launching & shollows, etc.
The smaller shafts (stops as you reffered to them) you see are for trim. They move slower & are stronger hydraulically. There should also be a visible switch arm (mine is black). That is for the operation of your trim cylinders. When you lower the engine on tilt it will reach a point where it makes contact with this limit switch arm. At the same time your engine should be close to resting on these 2 smaller shafts. They will stay extended until the switch is made.
Does that help?
Is your tnt motor running? you will notice a change in the electric motor's speed when this switch is made. At that point you are ajusting trim.

whats tnt stand for? im sorry if that sounds retarded. My boat motor runs and the motor for the trim and tilt runs i mean sort of it will bring the boat motor up from a normal running position but it wont pull it back down again

That's correct
TnT = tilt & trim

Well I am hoping one of the more experienced guys will jump in anytime now that we have a better idea of the problem.

do you know if your TnT motor runs off 2 relays or a solenoid?
If you post the year, model &/or serial # of your engine one of the guys will know the answer to that.

Do you get full range of Tilt & trim when the engine is not running?

did you notice the TnT motor stop running when you try to lower the engine.

You will need to do this on the trailer.

im not sure of the year the boat is up at the lake so I cant get the serial & model # the motor sounds like its running it makes the wine noise when I hit the switch which is what Im assjming you mean. it makes the same noise up and down running, not running, in the water, on the trailer.
