how does the vro work on an 89 johnson 120 hp

how does the vro work does it really vary the amount of oil that is in injected into each cyl. if so how does it decide how much and at what ratio what are the deciding factors . my reason for asking is i have noticed that with my motor it is begining to smoke qui9te a bit more than it used to at first startup. it seems fine after that first startup and warm up. but during the initial startup it seems to run rough and the smoke is getting a little embarrasing. would like to find the reason and try to repair the problem have looked in my seloc manual and found no info on the vro system that is of any help. thank you

I just had the same problem with my 85 175. I also noticed oil in the in line fuel filter(before VRO)after the boat sat for a couple of days,replaced VRO and engine starts quicker and normal smoke.
