Hi, I'm repowering my bayliner 2955 which had 2 305 in the back. <br /><br />I have just bought 2 new Vortec 350's (marine spec) <br /><br />The engines are running outdrives but note the exhausts are running through hull to increase flow. <br /><br />Fuel is delivered by 600cfm Holley's on dual plane manifolds<br /><br />Now how do you think the following camshaft's would perform, looking for arould 330hp<br /><br />in.30/70 Dur 280 .050Dur 214 ValveLift.440<br />Ex.79/31 Dur 290 .050Dur 224 ValveLift.465<br /><br />Cameron

Cameron, I recently went through a cam issue and wondered how to pick one. I found that the Comp Cam web site lists all of their cams, lift spec etc AND the recommended application. In other words, go to their site and look at the marine rated cams and compare. Just guessing but I think you might be OK. I know they do recommend total lift to be under .460 without changing to the higher performance valve springs. You are right on the edge if the springs were not matched to the cam. From the pecs I am guessing you have flat lifters so that does make a difference too. My guess is you are a bit tall and long but if your looking for HP like 330, you gotts be a bit big. Just remember, a lot of the high HP stuff outlined for cars and trucks takes advantage of RPMs up to 6000, even more. In the boat your going to be loading it up a lot more and 4600 is the top recommended for the 350. The post Ralph gave you is just the starting point for the comparison of stock, factory engines for the different applications. But to see a variety of marine cam cuts go to the Comp Cam site. I learned a lot just reading the spec, recommenced RPM ranges for each cut, application etc. I chose a cam a little smaller than the ones you have and so far so good and I get a good idle. Lots of no wake zones and shallows where I run.

Here is the link I started with at Comp Cams<br /><br /> http://www.compcams.com/Technical/CurrentCatalog/HTML/128-169.asp <br /><br />I chose the 12-206-2. You'll se others depending on what you want to do. Also, look at the catalog index. <br /><br /> http://www.compcams.com/Technical/CurrentCatalog/ <br /><br />It has sections shown like valve timing technical info <br /><br /> http://www.compcams.com/Technical/CurrentCatalog/HTML/5-7.asp <br /><br />which explain the specs and what the mean and what each does to help you decide if you have the best cam. Comp Cams website was very educational for me on something I only basically understood.
