How does this work?

My engine is a 1984 2 cyl 35hp Evinrude. I am curious how each piston fires (not sure how to state the question exactly)

When i am around like 1/4 throttle and then accelerate slowly, it almost sounds as if it kicks on the other cylinder, there is a noticeable change in pitch with the engine. At low RPMs does it only running on one cylinder, then as necessary, it kicks on the other one?

How does this work, or am i just imagining things?!?

You are imagining things, it should run on both cylinders all the time, if not you have a problem.
The engine pitch rises as the motor runs faster, that is normal.
Has the motor lost power recently?

Yeah, she's only running on one cylinder but i'm pretty sure it's the carb issue and hopefully i'll get her fixed within the week.

It only has one carburetor, which feeds both cylinders. obviously, it can't just feed one. So it is not a carb problem. Adjust your thinking.

OK, makes sense, it just seemed like one cylinder wasn't running until needed, but it may just be me hearing things!

Re: How does this work?

It is not uncommon for a motor to have intermittent spark that may come or go with different throttle settings. This can be due to different voltages incurred, increased/decreased resistance and temperatures, broken wiring in the flexible bundle that runs from the stator to the power pack, etc.

You can start by pulling one wire while at idle and noting whether it stalls or continues to run with no change in pitch. Use plastic pliers or the like so you don't get "bit"...

This is why you shouldn't make a duplicate post.........

Take a look at the other thread. He claims to have great spark on both cylinders but failed to remove the core plugs and thouroughly clean the carb. You guys might read through this before making any other suggestions.

I did read it. The one carb still feeds both cylinders. Core plugs has nothing to do with it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
