As the crow flies, I'm 1.2 miles from the Mississippi River and 1.8 miles from the nearest boat launch. From that boat launch, I could very literally travel to a range of places from Mobile to Galveston, and beyond. In a more practical sense, I can drive my boat through a maze of bayous and lakes to the Lousiana gulf coast, which is about a 50 mile trip. Before the insane fuel prices hit us all, making the trip was not unusual for some folks around here.

15 minute drive to the pacific and bout the same to 3 different lakes in my area. not as good largemouth fishin as midwest but at least i can get on the water all year...

5 min from the nearest lake and 15 min to the lake that I keep my boat on. Plenty of food on board, sometimes more than what is at the house!

I do have indoor plumbing which brings the water to me even closer

I'm a boating vagabond so I do all of the above.

The boat is in a slip an hour away for Trophy Season, Late March thru mid-May.

After that, have boat will travel. You may find me Striper fishing at Montauk (8 hrs.) or tuna fishing off Cape Hatteras (6 hrs.)

Then back in the slip on the Chesapeake for November if the fish are in the area. If not, I leave the boat on the trailer and commute to the fish until the season closes on December 31. Average travel time during this period is two hours each way.

I can throw a stone in the lake from my front door but someone has a small lot between me and the lake
the public access site is only a about a block away so from walking out my front door to having the boat wet is only about five minutes and there is over a score of lakes within a 15 minute drive including Olin lake which is the only large lake in indiana with a totally undevoped shoreline

We're only 7 blocks, but still makes for driving and launching with the boat. Our neighborhood has a private beach and adjoining ramp, so usually you're the only one there at any given time (no ramp horror stories). We walk if just doing the beach thing.

My worst ordeal is getting the tow vehicle and trailer back in the drive with the neighbors parking their 11 cars along both sides of our narrow one lane road. Atleast with the poor economy, the neighbors have fewer cars parked along the road.

Got 4 ramps within 15 minutes of me , and several dozen within 30 - 45 minutes . We have no marinas less than an hour away , as of yet .
Not an issue for me , though , I like smaller craft and skinny narrow waters anyway .

Boat stays on trailer, drop on hitch, back up about 100 feet and in water, if tied to dock for the week or weekend, just walk down and turn key. Then short ride to fish drops or about an hour out to the sound and beaches by water.

15 minutes trailering the boat to Raritan bay, then on the water 30-40 minutes @ 25 mph to the wide open Atlantic ocean or greater NY harbor.

Nine miles to the boat ramp on the Gulf of Mexico. Freshwater is closer.

I'm about 300 yards from West Point Lake. About 1/2 of the people across the street either have a dock or could have one if they wanted. It's a shallow cove that isn't always deep enough to use the dock if you have one.

The closest boat ramp is about 5 minutes away. I use that one most often, but there are probably more than 50 to choose from on West Point Lake.

For river fishing (Chattahoochee) I have the option of putting in upstream or downstream of WPL. The Flint river is less than 2 hours away too. Lake Wedowee in Alabama isn't too far away. Lake Martin in Alabama is about a 2 hour drive I think.

This is a very good area for people who like to hunt and fish.
