How far can i go?

I have a 1960-1970 14' closed deck runabout (light boat) , with an early `70,s merc 650/4 cyl. 2 stroker, me and the gf(little over 300lbs between us) and around 10gal of fuel....how far do u think I can go ????

That all depends on what you are doing with it. I carry 6 gallons of fuel in my '77 50 hp when I fish, I go out at least 3 times on that 6 gallons. A fishing event for me lasts 3-4 hours but I'm using the electric motor too. I used to rent a 75 hp boat to ski and we went thru 6 gallons every 2 hours with 4-5 people including a skiier. If you're just toolin' around, 10 gallons will probably last you all day, IMO.

Depending on how fast you go. WOT my guess will be about 33mph burning about 7 gals/hr so you will go about 50 miles. Slow down to about 25mph and you will probably go 65 miles

With mine, WOT is 35gal/hr, but I will cover 90 miles in that hour. If I slow down to 40 - 45mph it will go about 30% further and if I go 30mph it is about 70% further than WOT

i am guess-timating that i run approx 45mph @ WOT, but doubt i will be running it like that. my plan is a 67 mile trip ( frm my local launch) to where i want to go, or travel half way by trailer and turn the trip to a 30 mile run. i plan on having two tanks ( 5gal each i think) and possibly a small jerry can incase the "return" takes more fuel due to currents n wind. 90 mph jimmbo????:O what kinda rocket are you running? 1st time out (motor giving me issues) I ran at 32mph with GPS, and last sunday after a bunch of tweaking, and some "seafoam" I am guessing about 45mph @ WOT. I will go frm WOT to putting along, but mostly cruise at a more "sane" leisure speed. We have explored the coastline of huron and georgian bay the past couple of years on my motorbike, but think doing the same on the water will reveal some hidden gems otherwise unaccessable by land due to the cliffs and such. Sounds like a great trip! Do a search before you go to find any and all places to get fuel on the water....marinas, fuel docks, etc. It might come in handy.

With my boat/engine, if I travel at cruising speed I use a good amount of gas. One time, I went out and plum forgot to put gas in and was horrified to look down and see the gas gauge on empty. I was about 10 miles out with no fuel dock around so I putted all the way back to my marina...I was astounded to learn I could go so far on so little......when I say putt I mean putt...!!

oops. I thought I had edited it, but... It's 23 gal/hr and will cover 60 miles in that hour. 90 miles to the tank.

thanks...yet to go...but maybe next weekend (crosses fingers) life sometimes gets in the way. always have my camera(s)
