I bought an older '73 seaswirl with an OMC 120hp motor. Out of the gate I noticed it had a carburator fouling problem. Took the carb off and had it rebuilt. Re-installed and the boat ran great for about 3 hours, then fould again. My mechanic told me chances are I only fouled the carb again because I didnt do anything else like check the gas tank for corrosion, replace the fuel lines, or possible a faulty fuel pump.

So I took the carb off and he re-cleaned it and only charged me $20bucks. BUT, now I started to check everything else and when I dumped the fuel out of the tank it was like liquid rust. I mean it was nasty, no wonder the carb was fouling. So I replaced the fuel tank and reinstalled the carb. Do you think since im this far I should replace the fuel pump as well?

Better safe than sorry. You also need to purge the fuel lines. Make sure you also get a new fuel filter.

dont worry about purging them replace them with E-fuel resistant type A1 lines and be done with it.
in 73 no marine application rubber product was E fuel compliant nor resistant.

Perfect, thanks again. Can I just use a standard hose clamp at each end?
