Re: How far up do tabs go????
Oh, well, if its up on land you're in good shape and you can do whatever it takes if its warm enough.

This is just from memory, but if the tabs have a 9" cord (distance from the transom to the outboad edge of the tab) they are supposed to be mounted 1/2" above the line of the hull (that one I'm sure about) and if they have a 12" cord they are supposed to be 5/8" or 3/4", don't remember which.

The truth of the matter is that if they are dead even with the line of the hull in the full up position you're in fine shape. The extra half inch or so is just insurance to make sure that the installer wasn't a complete dunce. As bondo says, they are just an extension of the hull, but one that you can adjust. The full extension of the tabs is about 3" but every bit of that should be below hull level.

At any rate if you try to move the mount up the first thing you're going to have to deal with are the existing holes. They will look like this:

And the hole in the middle is about 3/4" to give you some perspective.

The reason you won't be able to simply move the mounting of the piston on the tab plate is because it is as far back and as far down as it can possibly be now. Here is what the tab plate looks like where the piston mounts (discolored a little darker than the rest of the tab) so you can see why that isn't going to work:

Making more sense now?

Thom
