How fast can you safely tube?

We always operated under the assumption that you should be able to climb off the tube and into the boat after a hard turn... before the slack is gone. But you need to be fast...

There is nothing quite like the big turn, and that moment of fear as you realize that the tube is slowing down as the boat is speeding up... and you see the slack running out...

Remember- you're not having fun until the tuber is crying... o:)

Hope you were driving an inboard. The thought of trying that with a sterndrive or outboard gives me the shivers..... Guy around here fell out of his boat & lost his leg below the knee when the prop hit him.

That stunt with an inboard sounds like fun for the 'extreme' tubing type (I'd like to try it if I had an inboard). But, given the risk of losing your grip while trying to get into the boat, and falling into the water that close to a spinning prop, makes trying it with a sterndrive or outboard seem just plain stupid to me.

No offense intended, just wanted to make sure that anyone with a sterndrive or outboard thinks things through before trying that!

Speed of tubing depends on a few factors:

Are my dilithium crystals fully charged?

Are the warp drives functioning properly?

Who is going to be wearing the red life vest?

Another good practice is to make sure you have identified the location of the worm holes!

Never tube with Tribbles, they clog the intake too easy!

Oh yeah, have fun.

Alot of good views on the subject.
I say 26.345 mph
The addage about docking comes to mind.
Don't approach adock faster than you are willing
to hit it.
So
don't go faster than you willing to
skip, spin,bounce across the water:love:

Re: How fast can you safely tube?

At the age of 17, I personally like to get the crap beat out of me while Im on the tube. When my uncle had me buy him a tube for me, and his 3 sons (14, 12, 10, all daredevils), I went to the boat store, and said, "Hey, I need a 2 person tube that will destroy the riders" and left with a Super Screamer.

We were doing WOT figure 8s (about 35MPH on his 86 Glastron w/ 130HP 3.0L), his kids had reactions like "I need to change my shorts" and "Im not going on that again" while Im saying "WTF was that? Time for a supercharger on the boat?"

Were going to try the Super Screamer behind our 90 Chapparral w/ 190HP 4.3L this weekend, and, if me and my buddies dont get our thrills on that, Im not sure what Im gonna get when I buy my tube.

Expect that someone will eventually get hurt on your boat, I`m sporting a torn rotator cuff from tubing. Ya, I was the smart A*s that said, "You can`t get me off this tube"! What a stupid thing to tell my wife when I was about 50 years old.:^
