36 MPH on GPS in a slight (6"-12") chop. It could probably do a few more on smooth water with more motor trim.

Re: How Fast Does Your Boat Go?

My boat is a tank. Best ever a couple props ago was 51.2 gps, nearly empty gas and no passengers. Loaded up to the max it's only 46 on gps with current prop but says 49 on the speedo. All at 4850 rpm's. Current prop is more aggressive design that won't ever blow out but is just generally slower at the top.

Cruisers Rogue 49.6mph on the GPS with just myself in it and nearly empty fuel tank (going to hit 50 if it kills me or blows up)
the SeaRay 190 50.8 on the GPS with myself and daughter on board - light chop
the Avanti hit 41.8mph on glass smooth water and just myself, then again, it hit 40.9 in chop with 4 people on board.

I look fast but go slow:(
38 on GPS and 5000 RPM'S. Slight ripple, trimmed up and wind behind me! I'm a little under propped for skiing and it's a 4 blade that has seen better days plus I have bottom paint.

Re: How Fast Does Your Boat Go?

My '80 Grew 185 with its Merc 470 will do 41 mph on a GPS at 4200 with a 21" SS prop. The engine will run higher but that's the redline, they say.
My '06 Sanger D215 330hp inboard will do 42 mph on GPS with it's 10.5" prop at 5000. It will do 43 with a 12.5" prop. It does get to speed a lot faster than the old runabout however. :D

Re: How Fast Does Your Boat Go?

I'll Play....

My '92 Chaparral 2550 SX Sport cuddy, w/ bone stock 454 and Bravo1, hits 53 on GPS at between 44 and 4500 rpm on a quiet lake w/ no current to factor in. Not bad at all for a larger, fairly heavy, single engine, cuddy boat.

Faster than I actually want to go, especially once I can actually see the gas gauge for an 85 gallon tank moving further away from the "F" mark during the run. LOL Cruising all day long around 25 mph is more our cup of tea, makes the Admiral happier. But glad to know the power is there, if needed, to outrun a storm or something.

Only run WOT rarely to just check everything is working correctly (and for braggin rights).

Re: How Fast Does Your Boat Go?

OK, I'll play this silly game of "how big is yours?". :D

Depending on what kind of mood the boat's in 62 - 63 mph. (And the gas gauge moves just as fast in the opposite direction.) That's with the boat set up for pulling tubes and skis, never have bothered optimizing the setup for top speed (anywhere near that fast and my wife's auto-nag feature comes on - "why do you have to drive so fast?!?!")
