Kinda curious if anyone has the same setup as I am working on. Its a 1990 Bayliner Capri currently has a 50 hp force. Upgrading to 85 hp force anyone know what speed I will or should get. Boat is 17'

Considering the age it's more like 35 hp now.... lower your expectations.
Best of luck!

Weigh your boat. It should be rated for an 85hp but I bet it's water logged. They put 50s on the 17ft stock, it should plane with 3 people. if compression is good it should be at least 75hp.

It's not water logged I just redone all the floors and upholstery in the whole boat the 50 runs good just slow I'm really hoping this 85 does better.

The 17 ft. Bayliner with an 85 hp. with trim@tilt will do 40+mph, depending on load.
Took one to the Annapolis in water boat show 1987/88?
I was surprised how fast it was.

Yeah, I've got the Capri with the original 85, and I was already getting 30-35 with 3 sometimes 4 people on the Potomac river. With a ding-ed up prop from this damn soupy river to boot! And, I'll keep you posted this season, as in my post last week, I discovered at season's end that my throttle isnt opening nearly all the way! Good luck!

i HAD a 89 force 50. tiny lower unit and prop. basically 35 hp. weak underpowered. on a 17' aluminum spectrum fish and ski. me alone 25. 2 people 20. 2 adults 4kids like 5mph. i purchased 2 757hc 1976 75 hp chryslers from a salvage yard. one seized, one wasnt. $150 for the pair. used the two to get one running motor honed re ringed and rebuilt it. 31 on plane with 5 people and the bimini top up. those 50s are just a sunday driver for a mid sized runabout. this is the 75 below. even pulls a tuber at 30. the 50 had a 10 3/8 prop. the chrysler is 13. you never be more happy to see the 50 go. i can pull my son 220 lbs with me my wife and 2 other kids in it at 30. its a new boat for us basically. we used to pull a kid on a tube with a spotter while the rest swam. we can all be on it now.
