if you are getting 33 MPH you are not far from expected top speed IMO. So I would not think it could be a bad coil/power pack. But you should redo compression test after decarb and do a spark test also with a spark gap tester. also what is you WOT timing?? You could also be having a slight fuel issue. But even on a high speed hull, a 150 on a 22' boat will probably not get much past 35-38. Did you ever try a smaller pitch prop?? what pitch is your current prop??? you said in your first post you just had carbs cleaned, it is possible they need to be redone or your fuel pump is getting weak,

I had a 91 Evinrude 150, that with 2 people on the boat, we hit 45 MPH, but the motor lost all compression on right side. The thing that gets me is that it takes awhile to plane out..might be a carb issue.

I think we need to stop comparing numbers here.. you can't compare different hulls with the same engine. Too many varying factors.

Personally 33mph on that boat with that motor seems perfectly fine. Your hull design is a very deep-v designed for rough water, not for top speed. You're pushing a lot of boat with a relatively small motor (for the size of boat). It actually sounds like that motor is very healthy. 33mph given the size of the boat and your low RPM isn't too shabby. Like others said you could drop the pitch a few to bring up that RPM if you had one to try out. I think the motor is fine though.. if you were short one cylinder you wouldn't be running that speed on that boat.. you'd also really notice a drop in your hole-shot. Lighter boats it's more difficult to tell when you've lost a cylinder at times.. but on that boat, you're going to notice.

Just to be safe, if you could post pics of your plugs that would be great. People define 'clean' differently so it would be nice to see just how clean that plug is. You could either be fine, or you could have a blown head gasket (water intrusion).

Speed-wise though, I think you're fine. Older motor, big boat, smallish engine for the size of boat, deep v, a prop that could be pitched down a bit - add that all up and 33mph sounds right on target.

Ill post pics of the plugs, and also will post a video of my boat at idle, and post video of my boat trying to plane out....that will give us an idea if its normal

yup! the thing shot right out of the water with a breeze! Not only 3 hours later I lost ALL compression on left side, and it overheated...which the guy I bought the boat from, paid for this motor, and here I am.

that was real nice of him to buy you a new motor. that is pretty fast for a 150 on a 22 boat. but all things considered , your new 150 should be close to the same. I would assume you got a problem somewhere. start with spark test..then start checking fuel problems. You said compression was good.

I was thinking the same thing, 22' is a big boat and you probably have a wide beam like 92 or 94 inches which yes it will not be touching but does make the boat heavier.

I have a 96 Skeeter ZX180 (18' 3") 86? inch beam) with a Mercury Black Max 150 (XR6 2.5 liter) with a 12 jack plate and a good SS prop (pitch ?) and the SE300 stablizing fin. Hotfoot throtle.

I get up to 62mph (GPS) on glass smooth water.

BTW... 50 - 60 MPH in a bass boat is hard on loose objects. Hats, sunglasses, maps... LOL
