How fast should this boat go?

I'm currently finishing up the boat wiring. Had everything loose all over just to test things out, playing with the wires directly off the back of the tach did make it jump up and down a bit. All my gauges are original except for the tach, which is a quicksilver. On the back if says something like 12 pole alternator only. I can't imagine I'm pushing over 5200 rpm, sounds like 4200-4500 if I had to guess. We will find out soon.

Thin blades, cupping, high rake for bow lift (for boats that can benefit) and ports for good hole shot and high pitch for top end!

+1.

Let me also add the Uber important progressive pitch and highly sophisticated and more specialized blade geometry for a specific application, which also allows for higher, more efficient engine mounting.

In this application, blade flex has zero to do with it.

To put it in simple/general terms, everyone wants more power. A decently matched stainless prop can add very noticeable increases in overall performance, which is "effective" HP, the only number that really matters. Better fuel mileage is also a nice benefit and can more than pay for a prop over its lifespan.

Lots of used merc props out their in the ~<=17 pitch range. 40mph is reasonable with lifting engine the one hole that's available. A used Turbo 1 would do it. Lots of other options. New can be had for ~300.

The 90's ran 2.0/1 gear ratios and a 19" pitch is too high. Does the motor have power trim (it may have been mentioned)?

In all fairness, there are some pretty good aluminum props, but since you need a prop and you need a fairly common prop, may be the time to go stainless.

I just break 50 with my setup and its almost identical to yours except I am running a 1985 Yamaha Pro V 150 I can get 53 mph running at WOT. 37-40 is about right with your setup

I'm running the original 69 Merc 1000 on my grandpa's old 16ft Silverline DeVille. With a chewed up 18p, I'm hitting 35mph @ 5000rpm. My combo weighs in around 1300 w/fuel.

The 1969 Silverline "Deville" hull produced more lateral spray with great distance than any hull I have ever tested/fitted. Wet ride(with any breeze) and the ultimate for a punk kid to "spray" anyone near it.

When the original SST(read cupping) arrived, it was a must on that boat with the motor trimmed out to maximum (and beyond) to try and tame the showers.

Very impressive that your grandfather's rig is still alive and well!
