How fast...

Hoping for a couple generic answers here. I am trying to decide on a motor for my boat, it's a smoker craft pro mag 162 (roughly 1000lbs empty). Was thinking I would like to put a 90 on it, but I have found a pretty good deal on a 70 HP.

How fast do you think this would push say 1500lbs with the boat full of people and gear versus a 90? Just looking for a rough estimate.

Prolly about 35. I actually think a 70 would be a great motor for that boat.

Go to: Yamaha Outboard Performance Bulletins and put in your boat/motor combination for details on MPH, MPG, GPH Seems to me the 70HP would be plenty, I have an 18' jon boat with a 90HP on it and it's really more power than I need. Good Luck!

Get the 90HP motor, you will be sorry later you didn't.
