How good is the 1973 Johnson 65HP engine?

They WERE very good and reliable engines, Bman.<br /><br />What you should know is their history of maintenance.

JB,<br /><br />Thanks for the reply. :D <br /><br />In an old post, I read a guy askibng if his 65 HP Johnson was worth fixing. You replied to him saying "If it is one of the three cylinder 65s it weighs about 250 pounds and is worth fixing"<br /><br />So my question is...My 65 is the 3 cyl model, what is so great about this engine? Is it because they are easy to work on and parts are everywhere or just a real reliable engine? Also, can I change out the carbs and get more power with it? How fast should this engine push a 14' fiberglass bass boat - The one below?<br />
