I am looking at possibly buying a used 2003 Yamaha FX140 Waverunner. I was looking for opinions on this model compared to the competition such as Sea-Doo, etc.

Does anybody know when the FX140 first came out, what year? Has it always remained the same exact waverunner all the way up to the current 2006 model? or are there better model years than others?

any opinions on what a good price would be to buy a used 2003 FX140 in good condition?

Thanks

Re: How good is the Yamaha FX140 Waverunner?

i got me an 02 fx140. seems like a respectable ski to me. i'm up to 215 hrs w/o issues. 02 was the first year they came out. i'm thinkin the 02 fx140 was the first 4 stroke pwc released. in 04 or 05 yamaha chaged the pump. so they say (don't know who they are though) i've researched the parts list and the parts all seem the same. none the less, the newer ones may have a slightly different pumnp. maybe its the ride plate thats different. yamaha put the speedo sensor wheel to the front of the ride plate in the new years. to the back on the 02 and 03 for sure. i think the engine is the same 02-current.
the only bad thing i'd say about the fx140 is it aint playfull. other than that. i wish all boats could go thru the seas the way the fx140 will go thru them. it just eats up any surf. this is one stable pwc. it will get a little playful if the waves are big engough though. i aint never spun mine out. it just turns and goes wherever ya point it. so ya better hang on.
theres a few mods out there for the fx140 too. that makes it fun as ya can get a little extra speed or better hole shot if ya want to turn a wrench or two.
as far as better or worse than seedoo. i have no idea, i've never owned a seadoo. but there are lots of opinions on that question i think. i will just say i like my yamaha.
