You may also have issues with controls. Again, I don't know those two engines well, but I know they redesigned the steering setup between those years. The electrical hookup may also have changed.

Electrical is my playground so no worries there. Hearing that about the steering concerns me. They looked to be the same when I inspected it. I also didn't find any difference between the new systems I was looking at online and my current one. Hopefully it won't tbe too hard to rig up.

Hey, if they look the same, you're set to go. As I said, I'm not that familiar with the later model. There were changes at some point in how the steering attached to the outboard. If that looks the same, no problem there.

Re: How heavy?

I took an old 69 V4 Evinrude (300 lbs) off my boat by lowering the tongue of the trailer as far as it goes, then putting wood blocking under the skeg of the motor (in upright position) then remove engine bolts and controls, and start to crank up the tongue. The transom goes down, the engine supports its own weight and all you need are two guys to hold the motor upright until the transom clears the motor. Then lay the motor down. Put it on a movers dolly if you have one.

I did this with the help of strong friend, just the two of us did the whole job.

For the benefit of those who do have a garage, this is how I mounted the new 200 lbs motor: I bolted a 2x6 beam across 4 of the ceiling rafters and used a $30 winch to lift motor by lifting ring on block. This is great when mounting, because you can lift it, hang it, move it, put it back down all by yourself.

I figure the motor put about 50lbs on each rafter, not much to worry about. And I still have the setup to remove the motor again if I need to.

The 2x6 had 2 2x4's glued and screwd to the sides to make a U beam. Because of the sheetrock, I just pre-drilled the rafters and use 8" cap head screws to attach it. Wrapped some chain and hung the winch. (The photo is from when I was making the convertible top)
