how i realized it was a left hand lower unit

heres a good one bought a used lower unit, instaled it and launched. as i went to back the boat up away from the dock the current was pushing me in so i (goosed) it in reverse, like normal and i flew foward right in to the dock this is when i realized i had bought a left hand lower unit. this guy had it on a single motor application and didnt even know it. so i ended up with a better lower unit than i thought and a gouge in the hull not too bad. this had every one laughing for a while "that idiot just drove right into the dock" all i could do i laugh glad i didnt hit another boat and hurt somebody

i dont get something... How is it a better unit than you thought? If it does not work with your motor?

I bet that felt very odd, and disturbing

Is it the prop or drive that is wrong? and Is it a Merc or a Volvo drive? Volvo drives can be changed easily to be right or left rotation configuration.

93' 200 evinrude, no i just needed a left hand prop i had a right hand prop on a lefty lower. everything is the same just a backwards gear in the lower. hapilly have a lefty on a single motor setup. better meaning more expensive leftys are hard to come by and are better. you can put a lefty on any motor drive shaft still spin the same way just has one more gear to reverse prop direction. all this did was cost me some gelcoat and i swaped 2 right props for 2 left props and of course a few dollars. for your info nothing is different with left or right its all in the lower. i just never thought of checking it lol
