Re: how is fishing in the rain?
Whoever came up with with wind from the west fishing the best must have lived in California. An approaching cold front with rain on the lower East coast of Florida is the kiss of death to fishing.
As mentioned it's the change in pressure associated with the front not the rain. One time we were surrounded by really heavy thunderstorms and had all the lines in the water. I had let go of the wheel (stainless steel) and was steering with autopilot knob (plastic). The rain was so hard you couldn't see 25 yards ahead of the boat and when both flat lines went tight I didn't even head for the rods. FYI ( fish can live while being dragged along with the boat for long distances) Just bonito but with all the lightning I wouldn't have gone in the cockpit for a marlin. (and that's saying a lot).
Keep your lines wet
