How long do plywood transoms last?

As is obvious from my posts, still trying to pick the best of the Chinese boats.

I noticed most have plywood transoms - how long do they last, especially in salt water? I can get fiberglass transom but it costs at least $500 more.

They should last for years. It's all in the prep and sealing. Build it right, seal it right and enjoy.

ANY water intrusion will kill it in short order, especailly nutrient active salt.

Just for giggles...Why are you trying to pick the best of the Chinese boats rather than the best boat or best boat for X price?

Because nothing comes close to the price. Not even the ball park. Under $2000 for a 1.5 to 1.8mm 430 PVC boat. Achilles or Zodiac are almost triple here for the same length. As time goes on and the family grows I'm quite certain I won't want the same boat in 15 years so paying the extra does not make sense for me.

No, you have to contact them directly. I used Alibaba, but it is very time consuming.
