How long does it take to lay glass over stringers and transom?

Okay, so I know this is a broad question, but I am slowly getting my boat ready and have limited time between work and kids. I need to have a working plan and an idea of how long I should allot for the task. Boat is a 19 foot inboard and I have installed the new stringers and still have the outer floor support/stringers to glue down at my next work session.

Stringers are 12 feet long and 6 inches high at the highest point. Floor supports aren't quite as tall, but max at around 5 inches.

The plan is to put 3 layers of 10 oz biaxial cloth down on the stringers and floor supports, and 2 layers on the transom after tabbing in.

I'm using epoxy so no CSM.

I work steadily-not fast, but not slow either.

Is this a long one day job by myself or more like a three day weekend?

If I need three days I'll need to take some time off work. i am closing in on my June deadline and this weekend just got scuttled due to the ex changing plans.

My driveline is just waiting for installation and I have to get these stringers finished!

Can I do it in 1-2 days or should I plan on time off?

(Assume all prep is done, at least I can do prep work an hour here and an hour there!)

why not spread it out.. try and do some at night when you get out of work.. do it some at a time.. . than your can do as much as you can on the weekend. and whatever you don't finish do it over the week

The clean up. With limited time I am hoping to minimize clean up and only have to do it two or three times rather than getting into the work and only getting an hour of work done for every time I have to clean tools etc. I work better if I have a long stretch.

Oh and I am working outside, so light and temperature are factors still.

give yourself about 3 hours per layup on the stringers..

as you gain experience it will go down.

Im in the same boat.[he he he :D] With two young kids, and work, I only get a hour here, and a hour there. Seems like I do more work getting ready, and clean up, then real work!!

Thanks for the replies. My neighbor offered to help, so I am hopeful that between the two of us we can do it in a standard weekend. I'm hoping to get the floors cut and fitted before I start glassing so I can use any excess epoxy to seal the underside and the sides of the wood.

It should also tell me if I got all the stringer and support heights perfect or if I need to adjust anything before glassing. Looks like I'll be glassing the 4-5th and if all goes well I'll be installing the engine the following weekend.

Anyone in the Nashville area is invited to help-beer of your choice will be provided :D

just keep in mind you only have about 20 mins to work with wet resin, so mix up small batches. And when you run out, mix up some more.

you don't want that stuff hardening before you are ready for it to.

Fitting everything and marking it is the ost important thing. When I did my project like that,I would seem to get rushed because I thought that I was ready and just start stumbling through it.Fit and cut,Then you don't need to get everything out.You are not glassing yet,So have every part fitted perfect and marked as to where it goes.Once you have that finished, make sure you get a glass roller,it will save you on a lot of time and materials.Just a 3" metal roller will make your work look professionally done. It's a lot of work, you don't want to redoing anything, good luck.

Sorry folks, I guess I should have said the glass work is basically done. I just have one small spot on the transom that needs another layer and this weekend I'll be putting the mechanicals all back together.

I need wrench turners and strong backs!

if free beer won't entice anyone, I know some hooters waitresses that might come over and entertain :D
