I rebuilt the 3 carbs on a 1987 70 hp I had...but I never reassembled the motor (new pistons and bearings ect) because the spline bore in the crank was so bad....as such I have had the kit and those carbs sitting on the shelf for 6 years now.... well I picked up a 89 70 hp yesterday that has been sitting for 12 years.... I plan to remove the carbs and just install my rebuilt carbs from the shelf...but I got to thinking...is it possible the float needle tooka set since it has been in the exact same position for 6 years...its could be open...I guess is could be closed depending on how the carb was stored all those years.... so my question is: is it possible the carbs might not function like a FRESH rebuild...because they sat so long?

thanks

If the carbs were stored upside down, then there be a chance of a groove if the needle was a soft tip, if steel tip no issue. If fuel had never been in them, again no issue. The carbs should be fine, though there is a chance some pesky insects made the carbs their residence.

If there was never any fuel run though them when you put them aside, they should still be ready to go. When you buy new carbs off the market, they could have been built years ago before you bought them, and they work well. So yours should too. JMHO
