Re: How long should a carb rebuild Last??

In a perfect world it would last ... oh, we don't live there  It will last until something cruds up the jets and orifices. The more often you use it the longer it should last unless you have crud in your gas. Filters help, stabil helps a little, keeping water out helps. Usually the culprits are in no particular order:
dirt
water
varnish (from evaporated fuel and oil)
deteriorating seals (gaskets, o-rings, etc.).

And the answer is.... its anybodies' guess. If the engine isn't getting the right amount of fuel, and the gas tank, gas lines, and fuel pump are OK, gotta rebuild that carb. If you've recently rebuilt the carb because of clogged jets maybe its the float setting or something else the next time. It also depends on how thorough you (or they) were the last time it was rebuilt.

Motors I use regularly rarely have fuel issues. My '81 Johnson 75 had the carbs rebuilt when I rebuilt the motor in '96. Haven't touched them since. I'm pretty careful with the fuel and keeping water out. I use the boat regularly, and it's only laid up for about 4 months out of the year. It gets Sta-Bil in the last tank of the season, too.
- Scott

i had a problem with my carb 6 years ago but i rebuilt it and have not had a problem since i pump the primer bulb whenever i think about it to keep fuel in the carb when the boat is not in use and use stablizer. been great ever since i also pull the rope and turn it over if its been sitting for more then 2 months.

Usually takes me about half an hour per carb, then another half hour for link 'n' synch.

The more I used 'em the longer before I had to do it again. So far my record is 5 years of weekly use.

That was a '79 Johnny 70.

Sounds like you fixed the Carburetors when you rebuilt them. Did you check
1)Spark plugs
2)Some time the links adjustments for idle will come loose and cause a problem at idle.
3)You could maybe check some others thinks such compression and timing.
4) Fuel Filter
5) Check or any water or dirt in them carburetors bowls. Drain or clean them.
If everything seems in check you might have to do them carburetors again since you did them once and got some good use out your engine won’t hurt to do it again if you think it will fix the problem.
