Just curious. How long can you leave 24:1 oil/gas mixture in a tank before it goes bad? 87 octane, if it matters.

Also, what is the best way to winterize an old 2 stroke if I put it up for the winter? 1955 QD16

Thanks

Fuel mixture will last for a long time. I usually don't treat mine over the winter. I just run it down so the tank is low, and then in the spring I fill with fresh fuel and oil, never had a problem.

There is a process called fogging which should be done for storage. I think a search will show a detailed explanation.

If the fuel is mixed with oil, it should be treated with a stabilizer at the time of purchase. If that is done it is not unrealistic to expect the gasoline/oil mix to stay useful for up to one year.

Fogging is for coating the interior engine parts with additional oil to prevent rust and corrosion. It is a part of a good winterizing/storage treatment.

Here is a link to yet another run-on paragraph that may help:

On your QD, I'd run some Stabiled gas through it at 24-1, pull the gas hose, let run out..then pull the cowling and the plugs, (stright up), and squirt some fogging oil on the jugs...pull the rope a few times, do it again, plugs back in, ...good for a few years at least...I got a wall full of old Johnny's done that way..
