How many blowers does your boat have?

My boat has one blower. The blower hose goes from the bottom of the bilge to the blower, then to another hose that blows out of the vent.

I have another working blower and some extra blower hose just sitting around my garage.

Would it be wise of me to install the extra blower into my bilge and use it to blow fresh air into the other side of the bilge?

Question - do you all have more than one blower in the bilge? If so, does one blow air in and one blow air out?

I've never seen one in and one out . . .

This is too wierd.
I have been toying with the idea for a while. I first thought of it when I had been sitting for a while and I opened the sun deck to get something. IT WAS HOT! I got thinking, one blower to get the fumes out and one blower to bring fresh air in.
Kinda like a ram air.

One of the things that I thought of with this is that running 2 blowers may put more strain on your battery..especially if you have a 1 battery system and are getting ready to start the boat. I wouldn't want to drain the batter too much right before needing it to start the boat.

With all of the electronics I have in my boat, I am not worried in the least about what another blower would draw. But I do have two back-up systems in place should my battery die.
If you are worried about possible drain, get an inexpensive booster pack. I carry one for those people who need help on the water. Saves on my stuff cause they hooked the cables to their battery wrong.

Personally, the more I think about it, I think it is overkill, unnecessary and potentially dangerous . . . If you do add a second "sucker" then I believe you do not want a hose to the bilge. I can imagine the "sucker" actually blowing fumes away from the "blower" (that actually "sucks" in the bilge . . .) which could leave them still floating about . . .

I'd agree. I think a draft blowing into your bildge would tend to blow heavier fumes forward and elimating their evacuation.

What if the "out" blower fails and you don't know it?

i think the extra blower plus the normal intake from running at speed would be more air in then the normal blower can remove. this could push gas fumes into unexpected places as others have mentioned.

why not just have them both blowing out the back?

Both blowing out is a good idea.. I once bought a used boat and the blower was going the wrong direction and blowing air into the bilge.. made me wonder if there are set ups out there that do that.. thank you for all of your answers.. I think I'll just stick with the 1 blower and if/when it breaks, then I have another to install.

Re: How many blowers does your boat have?

My thought on installing a second blower was not so much the fumes. It was to bring in cooler air to the compartment. It gets extremely hot in there. Sometimes I open the sun deck to let the heat escape after I have been sitting for a while.
My blower now is down in the bildge under the engine. I thought if I put the new one bloweing into the air intake on the carb. it would bring in fresh air.

I think now after this thread, I will still install the second blower, but I will put it out like the first, but will mount the hose up higher in the compartment to get the hoter air. How does that sound?

I don't see how it could hurt.. the more fresh air the better.. I open my sundeck to let the heat out at times too..

I have two blowing out through a vent on one side and the vent on the other side as well as the one in the front oriented to push air into the engine compartment at speed. I don't run the blowers constantly unless idling for a long while

If you remove air from the engine compartment what do you think happens?

A) Air comes in to replace it.... aren't most engine compartments somewhat water proof (ie. air would get sucked in just as fast as it gets pushed out)

If you hear a lip smacking noise as you open your engine cover, you may have too many blowers..

Two is redundant, more and you have a fan boat.

This could easily turn into a Jeff Foxworth ("you might be a redneck if") parody.. "You might have too many blowers if.."

If your carburetor is unable to suck in any air, you might have too many blowers...

If your blowers blow out more water than your bilge pump, you might have too many blowers...

If you consider your engine to be air cooled and not water cooled, you might have too many blowers...

hahahaha

Mine came with 2 blowers. Both blowing out from two different levels in the engine compartment.
