Just wondering how many company's made "lapstreak" boats out of glass. I can think of Thompson with there tunnel drive and thats about it, besides MFG. I would think that some smaller business's made them. Anyone have any more to add to the list?

To my knowledge, no one has manufactured fiberglass "lapstreak" or lapstake boats. Lapstrake or "clinker built" boats were many, such as Thompson, Grady White, Cruisers, Chris Craft, Lyman, etc. In fact, before the fiberglass lapstrake style imitations, most all boats were either carvel, clinker or later the molded ply.

True Capt'n....I am thinking imitation lapstrake, not true lapstrake. You are correct about not being a true lapstrake, just a company continuing their old tradition and imitating the lapstrake in their molds.

Let me re-phrase the question as I did not realize that my quotation symbols would be read into the way they were or were not. How many company's made imitation fiberglass lapstrake boats. By that I mean from the keel up on both sides, not the boats with a flat,semi-deep V, deep -V or any other configuration of a bottom design that did not have the lapstrake imitation design embedded in them on the complete hull.

Actually, lapstrap design will stiffen a hull whether a composite, aluminum or wood.

My 1966 Kennedy Mustang is fibreglass imitation lapstrake.
Years later, Sears sold an open fishing boat that had the same hull.

Re: How many boat company's made........

It seems like more brands made a glass lapstrake style boat than those that did not?
Of the top of my head, other than MFG, I can think of Starcraft, Sea King, Manatee, Grady White, Penn Yann, Steury, Aerocraft, Arkansas Traveler, Glastex/Speed Queen, Thomson, Lyman, Blue Finn, and probably many more.
The addition of those strakes on a glass boat added both strength and directional stability to the hull. They weren't just for looks. In the case of the MFG boats, the first were made as molded copies of Lyman wood boats. See here for more MFG info: http://forums.fiberglassics.com/mfg/
